The Cost of Staying Where You Are

For today, I’d choose a topic that is personal but also relatable to anyone considering a major life change.
“The Cost of Staying Where You Are:
is not really about university, it’s about change. Many people spend years thinking about making a change:
– Going back to university
– Changing careers
– Starting a business
– Learning a new skill
– Following a dream
Yet they stay where they are because it feels safe.

For years, I thought the biggest risk was making a change.

I worried about returning to university. I wondered whether I was too old, whether I would fit in, and whether I was making a mistake.

What I didn’t realise was that staying exactly where I was also came with a risk.

Every year that passed was another year wondering, “What if?”

Sometimes we focus so much on what we might lose by taking a chance that we never consider what we might lose by standing still.

Returning to university hasn’t been easy. There have been challenges, doubts, and moments when I’ve questioned myself.

But there has also been growth.

I’ve learned new skills, met new people, and proven to myself that I am capable of more than I thought.

Looking back, the biggest risk wasn’t returning to education.

The biggest risk would have been never trying at all.

Food for Thought

Many people are waiting for certainty before they make a change.

But certainty rarely comes first.

Often, confidence is built by taking action.

Ask yourself this:

If nothing changed in your life over the next five years, would you be happy with where you ended up?

If the answer is no, perhaps the question isn’t whether you’re ready.

Perhaps the question is whether you’re willing to begin. So, go for it!
