A Notebook, A Coffee, and a Second Chance

Today, I found myself sitting in the library with a notebook open in front of me and a coffee beside me.

Nothing extraordinary.

Just a notebook, a coffee, and another study session.

Yet as I looked around the room, I realised how much had changed.

A few years ago, I never imagined I would be back to studying. Life seemed to be following a completely different path. Like many people, I assumed that education was something you did when you were young and then moved on from.

But life has a funny way of challenging our assumptions.

Returning to studying hasn’t just been about gaining knowledge. It’s been about rediscovering something I thought I’d lost: the willingness to start again.

Every page of notes represents a lesson learned.

Every lecture attended is a reminder that growth is still possible.

Every assignment completed is proof that it’s never too late to challenge yourself.

Some days are difficult. Some days I feel overwhelmed. Some days I wonder whether I can keep up.

But then I look at that notebook and realise something important.

Progress is rarely dramatic.

Most of the time, progress looks like showing up.

One page at a time.

One lecture at a time.

One day at a time.

The degree may be the destination, but the real reward is becoming a little better than I was yesterday.

Food for Thought:

We often celebrate big achievements, but life is usually changed by small, consistent actions.

A single workout doesn’t transform your health.

A single book doesn’t transform your mind.

A single day at university doesn’t transform your future.

But repeated over weeks, months, and years, those small actions become something remarkable.

The question isn’t whether today’s effort changes your life.

The question is:

What might happen if you keep showing up?

Perhaps success isn’t about taking one giant leap.

Perhaps it’s about refusing to stop taking small steps.

What small step are you taking today that your future self will thank you for? Take that bold step forward 👏🏽 🤪
